Michigan Man Leaps Out of Bed After Discovering He’s a $1 Million Powerball Winner

When Robert Cusumano saw the Powerball alert on his phone, he couldn’t believe his eyes — a $1 million winning ticket had been sold at the store where he bought his!

The 65-year-old Cass County, Michigan resident raced to find his ticket. “I went through it slowly, number by number,” he said. “There they were — all five white balls. It felt unreal.”

Cusumano won his prize in the March 1 Powerball drawing, matching the numbers: 02, 23, 36, 44, and 49. His lucky ticket was purchased at Big T, located at 155 Main Street, Lawton, about 20 miles southwest of Kalamazoo.

“This is the biggest win of my life,” Cusumano shared. “I play regularly, and now I plan to use this money to build a more secure future.”

Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli congratulated the winner, calling it a “life-changing moment.”

Powerball tickets cost $2 per play and are available at lottery retailers and online via MichiganLottery.com. Players can add a Power Play multiplier for an extra $1, potentially boosting non-jackpot prizes up to $2 million. The optional Double Play, also $1, gives players a second shot at winning up to $10 million.

Powerball drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. ET every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, and can be streamed live at powerball.com. Tickets are sold in 45 states, plus Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
