Holiday Trip Turns Golden: Ohio Woman Snags Nearly $300K in NC Lottery Win

A holiday visit to North Carolina brought unexpected fortune for Chloe Mays, an Ohio resident, who hit the jackpot on a $1 Cash 5 ticket purchased in Clayton.

Mays, who was in town visiting family, stopped at Clayton Mart on East Main Street and picked up a Quick Pick ticket. Luck was on her side — she matched all five winning numbers, securing the $295,802 top prize.

The odds of winning this jackpot? A staggering 1 in 962,598.

She claimed her prize at the lottery headquarters in Raleigh earlier this week. After taxes, Mays took home $212,238, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery.

For those still feeling lucky, Tuesday’s Cash 5 drawing offers a new jackpot of $130,000.
