Chesnee Woman Strikes Gold with Last-Minute Powerball Play

In an unexpected twist of fate, a Chesnee, South Carolina, resident’s impromptu purchase of a Powerball ticket turned into a lucrative win. While she initially had no plans to buy a lottery ticket, a stop at the Scotchman store on Battleground Road in Cowpens changed everything.

Opting for a quick pick, her ticket missed just one number in the February 28 draw. The numbers (16, 26, 29, 38, 50 and PB: 6) almost lined up perfectly, defying the nearly 1 in a million odds and netting her a cool $100,000.

The winner expressed her astonishment to South Carolina Education Lottery officials. “I was surprised,” she admitted, having to double-check her ticket multiple times to believe her luck.

The windfall came as a shock not just to her but also to her siblings, who were thrilled when she decided to share a portion of her winnings. “I wanted to make positive changes for my family,” she explained, highlighting her desire to spread the joy.

The Scotchman store also benefited from this stroke of luck, earning a $1,000 commission for selling the winning ticket.
