A grandmother from Cabarrus County, North Carolina turned her dream into reality with an incredible $332,952 lottery win this past Sunday.
Patsy Avery, a resident of Midland, struck gold with a $1 Cash 5 ticket she purchased on January 19 at Jerry’s One Stop on N.C. 27 East in Iron Station. Her win wasn’t entirely unexpected—Avery had a premonition about it.
“I don’t dream often, but when I do, they usually come true,” Avery shared, recalling the unusual certainty she felt about her luck.
As a seasoned lottery player, Avery revealed her winning strategy: buying tickets from a variety of stores. “I probably stop at 10 different stores,” she explained. This time, her approach paid off as her ticket matched all five numbers, defying odds of 1 in 962,598.
On January 21, Avery visited lottery headquarters to claim her prize, walking away with $238,893 after taxes. Despite the big win, she is choosing to be cautious with her newfound wealth.
“I’ve been playing my same numbers for a long time,” she said. For now, Avery plans to keep her winnings in savings while deciding how best to use them.
Her story is a reminder that sometimes, dreams really do come true—with a little persistence and a lot of luck.
